Cross country skiing in Carinthia's Natural Arena

Every year in mid-December, lake Weissensee - the largest lake in the Ski- and Natural Arena of Carinthia - freezes over, forming with 6.5 sqkm2, the largest area of natural ice in Europe. A playground for speed skaters, ice golfers, ice hackers and ice-skaters.

At Weissensee-Hochtal alone, our guest will find 50 km network of double-track trails, reaching up to 1, 400 metres above sea level. A glide down the trails which run close by the frozen Lake Weissensee undoubtedly provides a supreme cross-country skiing experience.

These trails run parallel to the ice rinks, so that races between cross-country skiers and ice-skaters often take place. Incidentally: cross-country skiing has to be learned too. The cross-country skiing schools in the region offer their guests lessons in the classical as well as the skating styles.
